La Jolla Shores

The La Jolla Shores Situation

Some of Winter '94 -'95 brought epic La Jolla Shores

Shores - Nov 8th '94

Not that this was an exceptional day - just that Darrell Killingsworth brought along his 35mm because he was fixing his wetsuit. So, we got lucky - it isn't often someone's willing to spend an hour taking pictures...

Shores Photo Don Laughlin got the wave of the day, and drew out a nice turn. In fact, he snagged several like this...

Brian Doonan was just going off! Shores Photo

Wayne Severson kept going up to the nose -> Shores Photo

Comment from Doug Jones on Wayne:

You should mention that Wayne is an original PB horny toad and the fact that he is still alive, much less relatively sane and able to surf well, is a major accomplishment.
He may be the only surviving horny toad outside of an institution.

Wayne nearly rammed me on this wave Shores Photo

He didn't, Shores Photo and I managed to score a few of my own.

We were all suprised to see Jon Close, who was out here for a few days working on a sound track for a PBS surfing video with PT and a whole bunch more. He borrowed a board of mine and came up with some moves of HIS own.

Darrell caught him setting up Shores Photo for this little section

Close still rips....

Tom Ortner seems to *always* be on nose. Lately, Tom has been riding a longboard again on those days when it isn't juicy enough at Windansea or Simmon's. And, he's still winning lots of heats when he enters contests. In fact, recently received a nice award for most valuable surfer within the Windansea surf club.
