Five Summer StoriesThat was also one of the great things about this flick. It built in some truly great animated shorts like: Acapulco Gold (remember the era, folks were more tolerant about drugs...). There was another animated short about this interesting brown log surfing some tremendous yellow waves... But that's for another time.
The movie opens with what may best be described as quite possibly the very best opening scene of a surf movie. Any movie for that matter... Gerry Lopez takes off down the face of a large, large Pipeline wave. In the backgroud, Honk thrashes out a killer tune that will never be disassociated with this scene, once it has been seen. A classic piece of cinema. This movie is a *must-see* for anyone who has ever been surfing, or is thinking of learning to surf.
I'm including text from the ad from Surfer magazine, because even the ad is cool... It also tells you how to order it.
Heralded as "the finest surf movie ever made," FIVE SUMMER STORIES is a cultural icon, a time capsule from a watershed era when the world was at a critical crossroads and its reflection was clear in the emerging sport/art of surfing.
